Biography of Prof. Kwan-Liu Ma: Kwan-Liu Ma is a professor of computer science and the chair of the Graduate Group in Computer Science (GGCS) at the University of California, Davis. He leads the VIDi research group and directs the UC Davis Center for Visualization. Professor Ma received his PhD degree in computer science from the University of Utah in 1993. Before joining UC Davis in 1999, he was a research scientist at the ICASE/NASA Langley Research Center. He was a recipient of the PECASE Presidential Career award in 2000 and elected as IEEE Fellow in 2012. His research interests include visualization, high-performance computing, and user interface design. Professor Ma was a paper chair of the IEEE Visualization Conference in 2008 and 2009, and an associate editor of IEEE TVCG over 2007-2011. Professor Ma presently serves on the editorial boards of the IEEE CG&A, the Journal of Computational Science and Discoveries, and the Journal of Visualization. He is a funding member of the IEEE Pacific Visualization Symposium and the IEEE Symposium on Large Data Analysis and Visualization.
